Menoventi was born in 2005 and settled in Faenza a few years later. The founders Consuelo Battiston and Gianni Farina collaborate with Italian and European artists on projects blending theatre, music, radio, video and visual arts.
The company doesn’t have a standard, predefined poetics, but rather adapts its language and register according to the specificities of each production, generating a heterogeneous repertoire of theatrical devices.
The audience is the only anchor of their artistic research and it’s an active entity that gets directly addressed, spied, deceived and that – willing or not – becomes part of the game.
Consuelo Battiston
Consuelo Battiston started her acting career by attending the advanced training courses Zampanò (Santarcangelo dei teatri/ERT) and Epidemie (Ravenna Teatro/ERT) and workshops held by Claudia Contin, Ferruccio Merisi and Alfonso Santagata. She moved her first steps on stage with Molinorosenkranz, Davide Iodice and Roysten Abel, CapoTrave and Teatro delle Albe. In 2005 she founded Menoventi with Gianni Farina. She is co-creator of all its productions and is the main actress of the company.
She is creator and facilitator of the annual theatre workshop MEME addressed to adults and young people and co-directs the homonymous festival. She is part of the collaboration behind the Italian-French production Survivre by Pardès rimonim and Menoventi. Her acting performances include We Need Money and Oz by Fanny & Alexander, Macbetto o la chimica della materia by Roberto Magnani and Teatro delle Albe and I Girasoli curated by Anna Amadori. She has an ongoing collaboration with the photographer Enrico Fedrigoli. The outcome of this partnership has been shared through the exhibition I am not what I am in 2017.
Gianni Farina
Gianni Farina is a director, playwright, light and sound designer. He attended the advanced training courses Zampanò (Santarcangelo dei teatri/ERT) and Epidemie (Ravenna Teatro/ERT) and played in various productions by Le Belle Bandiere, Fulvio Ianneo, Davide Iodice, Roysten Abel, Teatro delle Albe.
He founded Menoventi in 2005 with Consuelo Battiston and has directed all the productions of the company. In 2010 he acted as assistant to Galin Stoev for the mise en scène of La vie est un rêve within the context of the multi-annual project of cultural cooperation Prospero.
He has directed numerous projects outside of Menoventi including Tabarin Citadin, Vita agra del dott. F., Genius Loci Cabaret l and the musicals Fior di patria fior d’amor and Histoire du soldat.
He is creator and facilitator of the annual theatre workshop MEME addressed to theatre professionals and amateurs and is co-director of the homonymous festival.
He is a speaker on theatre and theatre direction and has been guest of various festivals, schools and universities, including the Department of Drama, Art and Music Studies of the University of Bologna, the Department of Arts and Performing Arts of the University La Sapienza of Rome and the Department of Communication Sciences, Humanities and International Studies of the University of Urbino.
